WINDSHEAR JOB OPENINGS

 Wind Tunnel Aerodynamic Engineer ( 1 Opening - Created 06/26/2008, JSB )
WINDSHEAR NEWS - APRIL 2008
Commissioning On-schedule
Wind tunnel calibration, the latest phase in the Windshear commissioning process, began early in April and will conclude April 18th, on schedule. According to Jeff Bordner, Windshear’s Site Manager, “There have been no surprises in the calibration process. We continue to collect data that will ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the systems. The quality of the air steam and the accuracy of the boundary-layer removal system are proving to be well within specifications.”

The next phase of commissioning is acceptance testing, a week-long process followed by customer readiness testing (more about that in the May edition of Windshear News).

The commissioning process is being spearheaded by Jacobs Technology, a division of Jacobs Engineering, with oversight and final signoff provided by the aerodynamics specialist contracted to Windshear. Jacobs has extensive experience building and commissioning wind tunnels. Many of their recent projects have been in Formula One and production car facilities worldwide.
Opening Date Set For September
Based on the current schedule, Windshear is scheduled to open its doors to the first customers in September 2008. Most of the month of May is dedicated to continuous customer readiness testing, helping ensure that Windshear provides not only high quality data but high throughput testing for customers.
Available Time in 2008 Selling Out Quickly
Wind tunnel time for the current year is selling quickly. As of 28-April, 82%* of the available time had been sold. In addition, recent visitors to Windshear have indicated strong interested in buying time so it won’t be long before the limited amount of time this year is gone. Windshear is also selling slots for 2009 and beyond.

The majority of Windshear’s customers are from the NASCAR Cup series with the newest customers from IRL and Formula One. Interest among Formula One has been strong, partially due to the favorable exchange rate for customers from the UK and other European countries.
